Today we are riding in a group of 10, in what cyclists refer to as a Paceline.
In a Paceline, everyone lines up behind the first rider, who drives the speed. The riders then rotate when the front rider pulls off to the side and drifts to the back of the line. The next rider then surges to take up the pace on the front. Riders stay on the front for short intervals to best spread the workload amongst the group.
Our Paceline will last 32 minutes. Each time will rotate to the front of the line and will surge for 30 seconds Hard, followed by 30 seconds Very Hard. We then have to immediately regain our composure and maintain a Moderate intensity until we rotate again. As we go through this workout the time spent Moderate will continuously diminish until ultimately only the strongest rider survives.
Good luck.
